Mr. Fred Backstrom

Take one of our free classes taught by Mr. Fred Backstrom.  Fred covers a wide variety of subjects for both the beginner and more experienced users.  Class descriptions are listed below. Classes are free and pre-registration is required.  To register stop by the Reference Department

BASIC MS OFFICE This class covers basic features of MS Office with a focus on Office 2007.  Discussed are toolbars, text editing, inserting/formatting images and proofing tools.
INTRO TO COMPUTERS This class covers basic information on how to use the mouse, some basics of the desktop and correctly turning the computer off and on.
INTRO TO THE INTERNET This class covers basics on the Internet, searching online using search engines, finding reliable information and creating bookmarks.
INTRO TO EMAIL This class covers the basics of email, creating an account, using the address book, sending/reading messages, attachments and the forward/reply features.
COMPUTER SECURITY This class covers essential security precautions for your computer such as; antivirus, spy ware protection, and firewalls.
INTRO TO COMPUTER MAINTENANCE This class covers regular maintenance tasks for your computer.  Defragging, disc cleanup, backup and other general tasks will be discussed.
INTRO TO WINDOWS This class covers the basics of the Operating System, changing computer settings, creating shortcuts and the web browser.
INTRO TO WINDOWS VISTA This class covers some of the new features of Vista and some of the changes made to existing Windows elements.
INTERMEDIATE MS WORD This class covers more advanced Word functions like page layout, headers/footers, printing envelopes, picture edition and inserting objects.
Note:  All classes except Intro to Computers require the ability to use a mouse.
